There are 2 most sought salt mixes in the aquarium industry. The Reef Crystals and Instant Ocean. Both Salt Mix provide valuable minerals naturally found in the ocean. Most of the reefers prefer to have Reef Crystals because they say that this particular salt mix has more calcium than Instant Ocean. I say they’re both great. Anyways, Instant Ocean owns Reef Crystals. They don’t contain nitrates and phosphates and has been quality certified by Marine Labs.
Instructions on how to use Salt Mix
- Mix Instant Ocean with ordinary dechlorinated tap or purified water. A commercial dechlorinar is highly recommended. The ratio of mixture should be ½ cup of Instant Ocean per gallon of water (US gallon)
- Stir vigorously to ensure a good mix. It is suggested that after mixing, aeration should be provided until oxygen and carbon dioxide achieves its equilibrium.
- Adjust salt level accordingly by measuring the salinity using hydrometer. If the specific gravity is too low, add more salt mix. If too high, add more water.
Never mix the salt in an aquarium with fish on it.
