The Toadstool Mushroom Leather Coral is one of the easier coral to maintain in an aquarium. Though they come in various shades of color, it is difficult to identify each species because all leather corals have lots of similarities. They usually look like they were folded as they grow older. This coral is generally peaceful but they grow really big especially when thriving so space between corals is really necessary. Some of the Leather corals have toxins which maybe harmful to some aquarium inhabitants so caution is required.
This coral requires moderate light to high lighting condition and medium to strong water flow. Majority of the nutrients needed by this coral is provided by the symbiotic algae zooxanthellae embeded inside the skin of this coral. It will also benefit from occasional feeding of planktons, prepared brine shrimps and others. This coral can be propagated by cutting off a portion of it’s crown and placing it on a liverock or lay it down on the sand.
