This Short Tentacle Plate Coral is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral often referred to as a Chinaman, Fungia Plate, Disk or Tongue Coral. It comes in a variety of colors, some very bright. It is a very hardy coral and do not require intense lighting nor water flow. This coral is very good for beginners and for low budget aquariums.
This coral is semi-aggressive. Thought it has short tentacles, it can still damage other corals that it comes in contact with. It can expand twice its size with water so a good spacing is a must with other corals. This coral is usually placed in on the substrate. This coral is very easy to maintain in the reef tank and makes an excellent livestock for the newbie in reef aquariums. Special care needs to be taken in handling this coral to prevent tissue damage. It requires moderate water flow combined with moderate lighting in the aquarium. Trace elements like calcium and strontium is required for continued good health of this coral.
You can feed this coral with brine or mysis shrimp or small chopped meaty foods. Feeding this coral while its tentacles are fully extended a few times a week will be a good practice.
